Seasonal Allergies

Anyone have them? If you do, can you tell me if you've ever had an eyelid swell up? That's what's happened to me.

My eye doesn't hurt but it itches. Actually, both eyes itch but my left one is swollen so much I can't open my eye fully. I've never had this happen before, but it doesn't surprise me. My allergies seem to get worse and worse each year. And the past few months especially, I've experienced lots of weird changes and I think I can blame it on hormones and my weaning Maia.

So does anyone know what I can do? Will my Zyrtec help? Anything o-t-c help? I noticed it last night, thought it would go down overnight while sleeping, but I woke up and it was even worse.

Guess it could be a cat? I'm allergic to them also, especially my short-haired cat, Chloe. I've never ever contemplated giving them up before, but if they are the cause of this, I may have to.

Help, please!

My eyes get like that every time my allergies flare up. Try zyrtec or clariton. That should help some. Also keep washing your face.

Hope it gets better soon! I don't have any advice for you as I don't have allergies.

We are the allergy family, unfortunately. We've got airborne, pet dander, and food allergies collectively.

And yes, allergies could do that to your eye(s). You can also develop allergies as you get older, and yes, weaning can change your hormones enough to flare up allergies that might have been easily manageable previously.

Try the Claritin or Zyrtec, but those are better for consistent use than for immediate relief. Try Benadryl. You'll be sleepy, but it'll help fairly quickly.

That's probably more than you wanted, but if you need anything else, feel free to email me.

oohhhh - soooo sorry!

Sue has terrible attacks - did you read about how sick she is with her allergies in Italy?

When she was giving birth to Julia, something in the hospital gave her a terrible allergic reaction in her eyes. (It was spring and her allergies were bad anyway.) They had to call in the ophthalmologist in to her delivery room - she was in such painful agony she couldn't even open her swollen eyes!!!

Hope the meds help and I am sorry about those cats....

if its just allergies you should try some allergy eye drops (i have some naphcon A i think) but make sure they're ok for contacts if you wear those. if its an infection, try some natural tears, i used the generic target brand. hope you feel better soon. i had the eye funk last month and it was not fun!

Hey, thanks everyone - SO MUCH! The swelling has gone down today, which I'm happy about. When talking to my neighbor yesterday, even he noticed my eye. I took zyrtec and slowly my eye went down once I took it. Who know if the Z was what helped it, but it did and so I'm just relieved! It still itches and is a bit watery. The other one isn't as bad --- weird?? Anyhow, thanks for all your help. I hate hate hate allergies. You'd think growing up on a farm with so much dirt, debris and animals that I wouldn't have these. Strangely enough they didn't develop until I was in college -- far away from the farm -- and over the past 3-4 years they've gotten really really bad. :(
