Shake, rattle, and shake some more!

Southern Illinois had a 5.2 magnitude earthquake last night!

I woke up at the end of it with the house literally shaking. It felt like the house was picked up and shook back and forth, back and forth like a snow globe. It was loud sounding even. We live next to a railroad with trains roaring over it 3 times a day. My first thought was "it's just the train", but then I realized no way was it a train.

Here's a quote from a Fox News report:

"It shook our house where it woke me up," said David Behm of Philo, 10 miles south of Champaign. "Windows were rattling, and you could hear it. The house was shaking inches. For people in central Illinois, this is a big deal. It's not like California."

Right as soon as it was over, our house whistled. It was the strangest thing. My bed is right next to a vent and I could hear this loud "whistle" that finally just went away. It's crazy, really crazy. Like all things in life, it just happened suddenly out of nowhere and now life just keeps going on.

We're all okay. No damage whatsoever. Apparently there was some damage at the epicenter. Doesn't get much more exciting than this around Illinois! Read more about it here.

How many of you felt it?! Apparently it was felt near and wide!

Val, I felt it in Chicago! Can you believe it vibrated all the way up there!?! At 10:15, I didn't feel the aftershock, but I was in class and the slide on the projector screen was shaking like crazy for about 5-10 seconds. This is crazy!!!

There are reports of people feeling it down here in SW Missouri. My youngest woke up crying around 4:40am so maybe he felt it. My mom called me after the after shock around 10am. She was at work (St. Louis county area) and it shook her chair. Pretty crazy!

Val, most certainly we felt it. I thought something bad was happening with one of the dogs and they were up against our book cases in the bed room. That's what was shaking like crazy at our house. Then we thought there was another huge explosion at ADM again. Never in a hundred years would earthquake come to my mind. I didn't feel the second one however. So strange!

Thought of you the moment I heard, but haven't had internet to check on you! Glad all are OK. The last one we had was when Maegan was almost 4 months old. 12/9/03-- I was sitting in the living room of my mom's house on the love seat, Maegan was asleep, swinging in her swing. We had two visitors at mom's house and we were all just sitting around chatting and I felt the shaking and I looked at my mom, horrified, and I said, WE ARE HAVING AN EARTHQUAKE! None of us really knew what to do, then it just stopped. It was SO freaking crazy!

Crazy! I'm in southern CA and the ones we have been having here lately have been far enough away that I haven't felt any of them. I think the last one I've been through was many years ago when I was still a kid. Scary thing though. I'm glad there was no damage.

With all the aftershocks my conversation w/ my huband at bedtime last night was, "Oooo I wonder if we'll get another Earthquake tonight".. except for that one 10:15 aftershock it's strange how everything has been while people are sleeping...
